Must know

1A force is a push or pull that can act on an object.
2Pushing a door applies force.
3Pulling a drawer applies force.
4Force has direction.

Formula / process

1Force As Push Or Pull is best revised by linking the observation to the reason.
2Use exact words such as force, ray, pole, particle, unit, or shadow when the question asks for explanation.
3Effects Of Force is best revised by linking the observation to the reason.
4Friction Types And Effects is best revised by linking the observation to the reason.

Exam traps

1Students often name the action but not the object receiving the force.
2Write both: who applies the force and what object receives it.
3Can you say the object and direction in a pushing example?
4Students sometimes say every force causes motion.

Answer frame

Start with the exact keyword or formula before adding explanation.
Use one example, diagram cue, observation, or substitution to support the answer.
For 3 marks: definition, reason, and one supporting point.
For 5 marks: setup, method/process, example, conclusion, and final check.

Likely prompts

1Definition-with-unit questions followed by one reason or example.
2Numerical questions where formula, substitution, and unit carry marks.
3Diagram or process questions: ray paths, circuits, forces, energy flow, or graphs.

Keywords to include

1Force as Push or Pull
2Meaning
3One-minute summary
4Object
5Action
6Change

Avoid these traps

1Students often name the action but not the object receiving the force.
2Write both: who applies the force and what object receives it.
3Label the observation and reason separately.
4Students sometimes say every force causes motion.

Answer frame by marks

3 marks

Define the term, write the unit or formula, then add one relevant example.

5 marks

Draw or state the setup, explain the principle, apply the formula/process, and finish with unit or conclusion.

Force As Push Or Pull model

Force is a push or pull. In everyday life, we use forces to open doors, lift bags, stretch rubber bands, and...

Object

The thing being observed or tested.

Action

Ask what is being pushed or pulled and in which direction. Arrows in a diagram...

Check: Label the observation and reason separately.

Sponge, toy car, stretched spring, and clay model showing force changing shape, speed, direction, or motion.

DiagramEffects of Force

Effects Of Force model

A force is recognised by its effect. A moving ball slows when caught, a spring stretches when pulled, and a...

Object

The thing being observed or tested.

Action

Look at the before and after condition of the object: rest, speed, direction,...

Check: Label the observation and reason separately.

Wooden block, rough and smooth surfaces, toy wheel, and pulling string showing friction between surfaces.

DiagramFriction Types and Effects

Friction Types And Effects model

Friction occurs when two surfaces rub or try to slide over each other.

Object

The thing being observed or tested.

Action

Compare smooth and rough surfaces. A toy car slows sooner on rough cloth than...

Check: Label the observation and reason separately.

FlowForce as Push or Pull

Force As Push Or Pull explanation flow

Use this flow to write a clear force as push or pull answer.

Observe

State what is seen or measured.

Reason

Connect the observation to the physics idea.

Check: Label the observation and reason separately.
