Lesson
Coordinate geometry combines algebra and geometry by locating points on a plane using ordered pairs. The plane is divided by two perpendicular axes—the horizontal x-axis and the vertical y-axis—forming four quadrants. Every point is represented as (x, y), where x shows the horizontal distance and y shows the vertical distance from the origin. This system allows shapes, lines, and curves to be described using numerical relationships.
